{"id":261,"date":"2015-10-18T21:50:23","date_gmt":"2015-10-19T01:50:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/?p=261"},"modified":"2015-10-18T22:32:45","modified_gmt":"2015-10-19T02:32:45","slug":"rae","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/2015\/10\/18\/rae\/","title":{"rendered":"Rae"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rae and her sister Parti (who will be featured in the next cat post) were adopted in December 2013. \u00a0Unlike our other cats, they were adopted locally through a small no-kill cat rescue group called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Whiskers-of-Hope-183823134998054\/\" target=\"_blank\">Whiskers of Hope<\/a>, which we connnected with via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.petfinder.com\/\">Petfinder<\/a>, an excellent site used to connect people with animals who need homes.\u00a0\u00a0Also unlike our other cats, we got them as slightly older kittens, a bit over 5 months old rather than 8-11 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Deb had been reading about how black cats have a particularly hard time finding homes, which is really sad, and we were determined to adopt two black cats.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to adopting two black cats, on behalf of humans everyone I apologize to Bast for our silliness, as black cats are awesome! \u00a0 First, check out this glamour pose from January 2013:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-January-2013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-266\" src=\"https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-January-2013-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Rae January 2013\" width=\"530\" height=\"398\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-January-2013-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-January-2013-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-January-2013.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Second, black hair is a lot less visible on clothing, furniture, etc. than lighter colors. \u00a0Hence how Deb and I can have 6 cats and not look like yeti.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Rae is a very easy-going cat, not interested in being alpha, but very much takes on the role of the supervisor (To learn more about supervisor cats, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wayofcats.com\/blog\/what-is-a-supervisor-cat\/8759\" target=\"_blank\">check out this post from an excellent cat blog<\/a>!), checking in on the other cats, grooming them, and getting really agitated when the food bowl gets near empty.<\/p>\n<p>I love Rae a lot, and we have many sweet moments, but&#8211;perhaps because she spent more formative months in a shelter with lots of cats and not too much human contact&#8211;she&#8217;s very much a &#8220;cat&#8217;s cat.&#8221; \u00a0She&#8217;s not afraid of people and we have our uses, but she <em>really<\/em> enjoys the presence of other felines. \u00a0It makes me very happy that she ended up as part of our tribe and not as a lonely only cat!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_265\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-and-Spitfire-close-up.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-265\" class=\"wp-image-265 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-and-Spitfire-close-up-1024x589.jpg\" alt=\"Rae and Spitfire close up\" width=\"530\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-and-Spitfire-close-up-1024x589.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-and-Spitfire-close-up-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blockschwenkcollective.com\/cool_by_osmosis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rae-and-Spitfire-close-up.jpg 1103w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-265\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rae and Spitfire in my sock crate, 2015.
